Fairbridge damper cook-off
DELICIOUS smells wafted through Fairbridge Village when bakery staff flocked to the village for a damper bake-off. The village hosted Baker’s Delight staff for a day of corporate team building with Fairbridge’s Outdoor Recreation team.
Aside from the damper cook-off, participants were involved in other mental and physical challenges. Fairbridge offers adventure activities including abseiling, archery, rock climbing, giant swings and high ropes.
Fairbridge Outdoor Recreation Manager Carmen Dawson said the Baker’s Delight team held the event to provide a fun day out to staff and help promote a positive team spirit.
“The success of most organisations depends on the ability of individuals to build effective teams,” Ms Dawson said. ”Team building activities such as these empower individuals to contribute to company goals.” She said taking employees out of the office helped groups break down political and personal barriers. “The benefits are so significant that many corporations have included teambuilding strategies in their standard training curriculum,” she said.
Baker’s Delight central area manager Liana George said the day helped staff to understand that they were part of a bigger team and it was a great networking opportunity. “Everyone had a lot of fun – some people were dreading the unknown before they came but the Fairbridge staff handled it in such a way that noone was intimidated,” Ms George said. “We’d come back for sure.”
Fairbridge is a charity dedicated to positive change in the lives of young people in need. Young people help run and maintain the village, which hosts holiday-makers, corporate groups, festivals, campers and wedding parties.
